Distance: ~8km • Trekking time: 3-4 hours • Zone: Rainforest The Marangu Route commences at Marangu Gate, where you'll meet your trekking team, register with Kilimanjaro National Park, and witness porters preparing for the journey. Day one involves a gradual trek through Kilimanjaro rainforest, taking 3-4 hours. Spend the night at Mandara Hut (2,720amsl) equipped with solar lighting, flush toilets, and mountain-stream water. Earplugs are recommended for light sleepers.

Distance: ~11.5km • Trekking time: 6-7 hours • Zone: Rainforest / Moorland Zone Day two starts early, with the trek transitioning from rainforest to low alpine moorland. A detour to Maundi Crater offers a panoramic view of Kibo. The 6-7-hour trek covers approximately 11.5km, leading to Horombo Hut (3,720amsl). Dinner and overnight stay at Horombo Hut.

Distance: ~4.5km • Trekking time: 3-4 hours • Zone: Moorland zone An acclimatization day involves an ascent to Zebra Rock (4,125amsl), covering around 6km. Return to Horombo Hut for an early dinner and rest.

Distance: ~10km • Trekking time: 6-7 hours • Zone: Moorland zone / Alpine desert Two routes to Kibo Hut are available; the easier lower route is recommended. A challenging 6-7-hour trek covers approximately 10km. Ascend to Uhuru Peak begins around 23:30.

Distance: ~6km ascent and then 16km descent • Trekking time: 6-7 hours to the summit and then 5.5 hours to Horombo Hut • Zone: Summit zone, high alpine zone, and Moorland zone Summit night involves a rocky ascent to Hans Meyer Cave, Gilman’s Point (5,681amsl), and finally Uhuru Peak (5,895amsl). Descend to Kibo Hut and then Horombo Hut. A challenging trek of 12-16 hours but immensely rewarding.

Distance: ~19km • Trekking time: 6-7 hours • Zone: Moorland zone and rainforest A long but relatively easy trek of about 19km takes approximately 6-7 hours. Receive certificates at Marangu Gate, tip the trekking team, and then drive to Arusha for an overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis.

Depending on your flight schedule, you have the afternoon for shopping in Arusha. Late in the evening, our team will pick you up for transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport. End of our service.
